Energy, from your own roof

Scrub through a day to see panels fill the battery by day and run the house after dark. Systems sized from your real bills and installed under MCS certification so you qualify for export payments, with a straight answer if the sums don't work for your roof.

How it works

From your bill to your first sunny day

  1. Your usage

Send a recent bill. We look at how much you use and when, which decides the system size.

  2. Your roof

We check orientation, pitch and shade from satellite imagery, then on site.

  3. Design and quote

A written design with expected generation, savings and payback, priced clearly.

  4. Install

Usually one to two days for solar and a battery, with scaffolding where needed.

  5. Paperwork

MCS certificate, DNO notification and the documents you need for an export tariff.

Straight talking

We'll tell you if it doesn't add up

A north-facing roof, heavy shade from trees, a roof that needs replacing, or very low electricity use can all make solar a poor buy. If that's your house, we'll say so, and suggest what would help instead, which is sometimes a battery on a cheap overnight tariff and sometimes nothing at all.

Every quote shows the system size, the expected yearly generation for your roof, and what that's worth at today's prices, so you can check our sums.

Council scheme or private installer?

Wirral and Cheshire councils run group-buying rounds (Solar Together) with auctioned bulk prices. They can be good value, with a fixed design and a long wait. A private installer designs around your house and fits sooner. Get a quote from both and compare like for like: system size, battery, warranties and the export tariff you can get.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is solar worth it on the Wirral?

Usually, yes, on a roof that faces anywhere from east through south to west without heavy shade. The north west gets less sun than the south coast, but a well-sized system still cuts a typical bill substantially, and a battery lets you use more of what you generate. We'll show you the expected figures for your roof before you decide.

What is MCS and why does it matter?

MCS is the UK certification scheme for small-scale renewables. Without an MCS certificate for your installation, energy suppliers won't pay you for the electricity you export under the Smart Export Guarantee, and many lenders and insurers ask for it too.

Do I pay VAT on solar panels and batteries?

Not at the moment. Solar panels, battery storage and their installation are 0% VAT for homes in Great Britain until 31 March 2027, after which the rate is due to return to 5%. That applies to batteries added to existing solar as well.

Do I need planning permission?

Most roof-mounted solar on a house is permitted development, with limits on how far panels can project from the roof. Listed buildings always need consent, and in a conservation area panels on a wall or roof facing the road may need it. Several Wirral areas, including Caldy, Oxton and Port Sunlight, are conservation areas, so we check before we design.
